Handmade porcelain creamer milk jug with sugar bowl and spoon, in light blue dotty pattern.
My creamer jugs and sugar bowls with spoon are made from white porcelain clay rolled out flat into slabs. Each piece is cut out and formed by hand. I leave the seams visible where I join the sides of the jug and bowl, as part of the design. A circular shape is cut and added for the bases and two ‘handles’ are pinched in the sides of the jug.
They are high-fired in the kiln to 1000 degrees (the bisque fire) which dries and strengthens them sufficiently for them to be glazed. I use wax and paper resists, slips and underglazes to decorate each piece, before finishing with a clear glaze and firing them again to 1250 degrees.
Each creamer jug, sugar bowl and spoon is individually crafted so no two are exactly alike. The process of using slabs of clay results in each piece having an irregular shape (rather than being perfectly circular), which gives each set it’s own character and unique personality, which adds to its charm.
This listing is for one creamer milk jug, one sugar bowl and one spoon. The mugs and espresso cup sets pictured are available in separate listings.
Handmade in my studio in Emsworth in the south of England.
